Study: Vaccines may reduce the chances of transmission of the Coronavirus between members of the same family

Getting the vaccine not only protects you from corona but may also help protect your family from the virus, as a new study has shown that corona vaccines may reduce the chances of transmission of the virus between members of the same family.

Study: Vaccines may reduce the chances of transmission of the Coronavirus between members of the same family

It showed a new study by researchers at the Public Health Agency UK (Public Health England) that people who are infected with Corona after taking them vaccines may be less contagious to family members, compared with those who did not receive vaccines.

To conduct the study, scientists examined data taken from nearly 1.5 million people in the United Kingdom to investigate the effectiveness of vaccines in fighting the Coronavirus, and the study showed the following:

  • Adults who received the Pfizer vaccine and were infected with the Coronavirus after receiving the vaccine had a 49% lower chance of transmitting the virus to the rest of their families compared to those who did not receive the vaccine.
  • Adults who received the AstraZeneca vaccine and were infected with the Coronavirus after receiving the vaccine had a 38% lower chance of transmitting the virus to the rest of their families.

According to the study, the effectiveness of vaccines in this regard often begins 14 days after receiving the vaccine, and the protection that corona vaccines may provide to the rest of the family applies to different age groups.

Although the effectiveness of the Pfizer vaccine in reducing the chances of transmission of infection between members of the same family was better compared to the AstraZeneca vaccine, the results of the study shed light on the importance of different vaccines in general in fighting the Coronavirus

This study comes to add a new positive point to the balance of Corona vaccines currently available, after previous studies revealed that receiving vaccines may reduce the chances of developing severe symptoms for those who catch the virus after receiving the vaccine, especially the elderly.

What's Next?

Since homes are generally environments that are ideal for transmission of the Coronavirus from one person to another, the results of this study are promising and positive to a large degree, and may mean that receiving vaccinations may reduce the chances of transmission of corona from one person to another significantly, even in crowded environments.

Depending on the results of this study, it is expected that future studies of corona transmission in crowded environments in which some individuals have received vaccines will return with similar results, such as in shared accommodation.

Therefore, the vaccines that are currently available are one of the best ways available to combat the Coronavirus. Taking the vaccine may not only protect you from the Coronavirus but may also make you less likely to transmit the Coronavirus to your loved ones and family members if you become infected with the virus after receiving the vaccine.
